Skype webcam challenge

PING! Email arrives from Geoff Monk, boss of GlobalCoachTours.com, asking if he is the first UK travel agent to offer Skype-based webcam communication.

We're not sure actually...

It certainly sounds like a good move for GlobalCoachTours.com. The company started offering Skype calls to customers about a year ago, "but not many people used it", he writes.

But in little over a week, Monk says he has already had five webcam conversations. And one fantastic result, too:

"One new booking has directly come about as a result of the web cam facility. Trust is a big issue for some people using the web as their booking tool.

"By having a face to face conversation I secured a £4000.00 booking with a guy in New Zealand. Not bad for a £29.00 web cam investment!"
Anyone else using webcams?

It's great to see people using their initiative and using tools like Skype to provide a more personal service to it's customers.

I've used Skype for people to communicate via my business and blog, but I don't want to scare them with webcams quite yet.

Sounds a great idea and a great use of the technology available. I'll definitely be looking into it.
