Goodbye Zoom, hello BA

Hitwise were quick of fthe mark this morning, sending out data to hacks which shows the main beneficiaries of Zoom's collapse, in terms of web traffic.

Following the announcement yesterday, Flyzoom.com became the eighth most visited airline website in the UK for a short while - ironically, the first time it had reached such lofty heights in its history.

Meanwhile, Hitwise data shows that British Airways has been the number one site passengers and other curious visitors have gone to after reading the messages on the Zoom homepage.

You'd expect BA to be the No.1 site that people visited after Zoom airlines site because it has a link to it from the Zoom website.

I've just searched Twitter for 'Zoom Airlines' and they're loads of people twittering about people being stranded/cancelled flights.

The point is that there are countless other airlines linked off the Zoom homepage as well, but BA is benefiting the most.

Others include:

www.aircanada.com
www.airfrance.com
www.airnewzealand.com
www.airtransat.com
www.alitalia.com
www.ba.com
www.canadianaffair.com www.canadianaffair.ca
www.flyglobespan.com
www.united.com
www.virgin-atlantic.com

Point taken and understood! :)

If it's for UK traffic though then wouldn't most people look towards BA than say Air Canada.

The only reason why I say UK traffic because Google UK is 2nd in the list.

Darren: I would imagine most users, when faced with what to do, would either click on one of the links provided, or head straight to a search engine (i.e. Google) to work out what the hell they are going to do.

True.

... then find my blog ;)

I'll have to drop by the Hitwise site. I'm Interested to find out how Hitwise works. They're pretty good stats so soon after the event.

It also makes sense that people who have looked at Zoom, especially after the news, want to go to a more traditional and 'seemingly' more stable brand such as BA rather than another low cost airline.

Would be interesting to see if John Lewis benefited as a result of the demise of that online wedding gift service.

Darren: Hitwise is a subscription service, alas.

But it is interesting how Virgin Atlantic went down in the pecking order.

Richard: maybe it is a route issue?

The other thing that'd be interesting to see, is what other sites are picking up the traffic after searching within Google UK.
