You know you've read a fake hotel review when......

Fill in the blank space.

Here is one to get us going:

...the private beach in the photo is clearly not "white sand"

Leave responses in the comments section. Start a list on your own blog. Just a bit of Friday fun...

1) When i find only a single review of a specific service.

2) When all review say the same thing

3) When i find the same repeated words or emails

....when.....

- the hotel "reviewer"/account executive gave the hotel a 5.0 rating for everything ;-)

- a interactive division of a big advertising agency, located in Singapore or China [where labor is cheaper] is devoted to seeding online forums and bulletin boards with 'targetted content' for their advertising clients ;-((

best regards and great week-end

.....When you read it on an online travel agency website!!

I have posted a long response to this on my blog - User generated reviews - are they losing their trust?

I don't always agree with you, but I see that you are objective in your
postings. Despite the differences I still enjoy reading your posts and I
often learn even when our viewpoints are different. :-)

...it is a list of non-specific positive adjectives. Real people focus on particulars.

Purple prose is a giveaway too: nobody uses words like 'premier' in conversational writing.

I should add that I love reading clumsy shill. It's an undervalued genre.

...a hotel did not get any review for a while and, all of a sudden, gets 6 reviews in 3 days, all written with words such as 'fantastic, marvelous...' or photos or videos that look close to professional.

...when our tech department goes through it, how bizarre: all have same address (IP).

When there nothing could be better or improved

...when it's a glowing "this is the best hotel ever" style review, but when you check other posts from the reviewer the only one they've created is a damning tirade against the hotel next door!

when ... it's not on Travel Republic. You can only get a hotel review onto our website by making a booking at the given hotel. We have 20,000 reviews like this now and hundreds more are being added every week.

Yes, of course I'm biased but we like to think that our reviews can't be beaten in terms of integrity.
