Mystery company tried to buy Thomas Cook last year

Interesting session at the ITT Conference with Manny Fontenla-Novoa.

Full post on our ITT Conference blog here.

He mentions a mysterious "another company" that apparently came in with an offer for Thomas Cook in the summer of 2006. Shareholders turned it down. Who could it be?

[Our apologies for the incorrect link yesterday. All correct now]

Didn't any one think to ask why there isn't a dedicated e-commerce director? Is responsibility for the Thomas Cook Group web offer going to be fragmented among the various other directors, with no one person really in control? Simon Robinson is down as director of distribution for the UK and Ireland - is he going to be in charge of the online presence of Europe's second largest tour operator in Europe's biggest online market [among his other "distribution" roles]?

I would suggest that the mystery company was probably First Choice since Manny said that.....the tried to buy the UK only and then they irritated us by trying to buy the whole of TC and in the end we decided to buy them. Its unlikley to be MYT since they would not have been able to raise the money to buy TC.
