Thomas Cook digital mag-brochure - better than many

Thomas Cook's first every digital magazine is up and running - and it's pretty good.

The Ceros Media-hosted magazine has embedded video and direct links to relevant pages on the main Thomas Cook website.

The question is whether anyone will use it.

Have a look here.

[Disclosure: Ceros produces the digital editions of Travolution and Travel Weekly]

Slick, polished and professional, alhtough the bespoke month content was not immediately obvious. As much as online enthusiasts protest against them, customers still enjoy the online brochure effect.

I wonder however if the restrictions of javascript create a missed opportunity, from an SEO perspective.

Richard: I thought I read somewhere recently that Google is now able to read javascript?

If you are talking about the recent news that referred to flash?

As far as I know,(caveat!) Google can read limited aspects of Javascript code but I am sure that there is a wide difference between being able to read something and it being optimal for SEO.

The cached version of the Thomas Cook site does not show any text at all. This could also present accessibility problems.

I do like the site though!

Richard: thanks for the comments. we will keep an eye on the brochure and ask, in a few weeks, for usage figures. :-)

I agree with Richard, I love the design, layout and content. I'd like to see holiday brochures in this style.

Much more fun to read.

From an SEO perspective, the SE's can't follow JavaScript links, but it has been indexed by Google.

It's not search engine friendly though so no one is going to find it in the search results I don't think.

Would be interesting to find how many people have read it, and how they have promoted it.

No need to worry about Javascript! all textual content in a Ceros title is indexed and made available to Google.
