New Holidays Uncovered, er, uncovered

After our news story a week or so back, Thomson has finally unveiled the first stage of its new-look HolidaysUncovered - a site it acquired in September 2007.

Certainly a cleaner homepage...

Some other new bits of functionaility worth checking out.

Looks like it was cooked together in a day back in 1995. Very boring!

A senior Thomson exec had this to say to us today about the first comment here:

"Daft comment from some idiot on the blog re: cooked together in 1995, that's the point, we could have made it all flashing but the feedback was it worked (financially) and was trusted as it had that almost 'blue peter appeal'..."

eh? what a strange comment...
I found it difficult to use and I was constantly looking for the all hotels option rather than one that began with a letter...

Probably good if you know exactly which hotel you're looking for but not so clear if you just want to look in a location.

It might be in there but I didn't see it?

From what I understand, with the whole First Choice integration work, there has clearly been limited resources.. Safe to say we can expect some immediate refinements and more bells and whistles in good time.. Be interesting to see if the commercial model changes....

I too was constantly looking for the 'all hotels' option for a particular holiday resort.

One strength of the old site ws it was all structured by resort so was easy to browse all the hotels in that resort and pick a good one. The new ranking system should make this easier.

I'm sure the new site will be tweaked and refined over the coming months.

The old site, despite its strengths and following, was in need of an update.
