Murdoch buys into travel meta search

Not content with investing in innovative products such as MySpace and The London Paper, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has bought a stake in Asian meta search engine Bezurk.com.

The deal is being run out of News Corp's Australian division News Limited, owner of The Australian newspaper.

Whatever next...

Co-founder Craig Hewett told us the investment from News Corp is for a "significant minority stake", so anything between 5% and 30% by our reckoning, and a seat on the board.

Amazingly the Singapore-based Bezurk has just 20 employees - and 53,000 new friends in the Murdoch empire.

Offical release here.

On the back of Kayak and SideStep this deal by Murdoch is really interesting for Travel Search. The plot thickens. What's everyones view on News buying into Bezurk.com? What does this mean for the other smaller travel search start ups?

Like his deal for MySpace, Murdoch might actually be 1 year or so behind the growth trend here.

I just found your blog and I find the articles on the U.K. really interesting. I'll have to study up on Bezurk.com to give an educated comment on that subject. As a tourism blogger from Canada your site gives me another perspective of this business.
