What is your definition of Web 2.0?

I am working on a presentation for a seminar being held at UK banking giant Barclays on Wednesday.

The working title I have been given is: "The next generation of the Internet and the implications for travel" - in other words, a look at Web 2.0 and, in turn, Travel 2.0.

Thought it might be interesting, in order to demonstrate how the "community" is often now the source rather than the recipient of information, to ask Travolution blog readers for their definition of Web 2.0 - in one sentence...

Please leave your entry in the comments section. All will be included in the presentation...

Cheers!

I think my own definition of Web 2.0 would be "sharing through linking".

This is the underlying feature behind the largest players in Web 2.0 such as YouTube, Digg and Flickr.

OK, Kevin, you asked for one sentence, so it's going to be a long one!

Web 2.0 is actually the present generation of the internet, a vast collection of linked documents known as "the web", enhanced with technology that allows mashups and content provided based on the collective wisdom of web users utilizing social networking capabilities and social media.

The next generation will be web 3.0 but that's for another occasion.

Web2.0 is simply a symbol representing "towards collaboration".

Travel2.0 will hopefully give anyone the power to research and book every part of their trip based upon the aggregation of experiences from all of the worlds travelers.

Research. Plan. Book. Explore. Share.

Blogs, wikis, myspace, twitter, social networking. Their underlying commonality is that they are all platforms for sharing experience and knowledge (regardless of usefulness or relevance). So, if I can sum up Web 2.0 in one very short sentence, it would be:

Web 2.0 is the experiential Internet.

Web 2.0 is generally considered to encompass the evolution of the Internet and online media, from a traditionally static and one dimensional medium, to one of user participation, collaboration and two way communications.

Blogs, wikis and social bookmarking have however been criticised in light of the notion that everyone is now a critic... but in my opinion, Web 2.0 has meant change, and change is a good...
